About Anne-Hampton

Hi, I'm Anne-Hampton. I'm a licensed clinical social worker and the founder of Harden Counseling in Winston-Salem. I work with teens, adults, and older adults in individual therapy.

I believe each of us is made up of our own emotions and our own reactions to those feelings, and that therapy should honor that. My role is to offer space to work through what you're experiencing, to understand it more clearly, and to learn new ways of managing it when that would help.

A guiding belief

"Therapy is a chance to learn how to better care for ourselves, so we can face life's challenges, expected and unexpected, with a stronger sense of self."

My approach

My work is empathetic, strengths-based, and collaborative. Rather than starting from what's wrong, I pay attention to the strengths and resilience you already bring, and build from there.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is at the heart of my work. It helps you make room for difficult thoughts and feelings while moving toward what matters most to you. When we identify a need for a more specialized approach to trauma responses, I use EMDR. I also draw on CBT, Internal Family Systems, and mindfulness-based therapy, choosing among them based on what fits each person. No two people come to therapy with the same story, so no two experiences of therapy should look the same.

Much of the work is about understanding yourself more fully, including your relationships with family, friends, and the wider community you're part of.

What working together can look like

Therapy with me is a partnership. Our early conversations focus on getting to know you: what brought you in, what you'd like to be different, and what matters most to you. From there, goals are set together and shaped by your own hopes and needs.

Along the way, I aim to be a steady, sincere presence who walks alongside you with compassion as you make sense of difficult feelings and practice new ways of responding.

Outside the office

I'm a mom to a busy toddler, so a lot of my free time is spent at the park, pushing swings and chasing someone who has decided that running in the opposite direction is the best game ever invented. When I get a little time to myself, you'll probably find me riding horses, which is one of my favorite ways to clear my head.

I'm also renovating my mid-century home, one project at a time, which means there's almost always a paint swatch taped to a wall somewhere. The rest of my life probably looks a lot like yours: long walks with friends, a good book, time with family, and escaping to the beach whenever I get the chance.

I share this because I think therapy works best when it feels like you're talking with a real person. I don't have life all figured out, and I don't expect you to either. I'm just someone who'd like to sit alongside you while you work through whatever you're carrying.

Education

I earned my bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia and my Master of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2021. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
